Dee's Kids Clothing

Welcome to our blog.

Noah has arrived--and so has the floods

Noah arrived on August 27. He's our 9th grandchild. And where did I shop for him? At Dee's Kids Clothing, of course!

The tropical storm, Fay, sat over us until a day or two before Noah made his way into the world. I told my son, "It's your fault we had all this rain, since you decided to name the baby Noah!" Did I mention we had 20 inches of rain in our yard?

Luckily, we sit high enough and our ground was so parched from years of draught, that it sucked all the rain water up.

However, not eveyone around here was so lucky. We went to the Post Office in Orange City--about 5 miles from us--and couldn't get to it. The streets around it had deep water and was blocked off. Everywhere we went in Orange City there was flooding. Shopping strip malls were ruined. And in Deltona and Debary, Sanford and Oveido, there are many housing developments with flooded streets and water in their homes. The folks on the river have water creeping up further every day. Some say they've lived there for twenty and more years and never had this.

We once lived in Winter Springs. Let me tell you, in Florida, they let builders build in the swamps. Our yard used to have water an inch deep whenever we had any heavy rains--and these weren't from tropical storms or hurricanes--just regular rain storms.

We learned to check out places before buying. Low land--don't buy--don't build.

Anyhow, back to Baby Noah. There was a cartoon in the newspaper where they asked for captions. This one had a small pickup truck pulling Noah's Ark. I had to send my caption: "I told you we shouldn't have named the baby Noah!" I'll let you know if it's picked as the winner or not--but it was so perfect!

Baby Noah is looking better each time we see him. Let's face it, they come out red and puffy and their heads look cone-ish! He has a lot of dark hair with a receding hairline--just like his daddy!

His sister, Hurricane Emma, was none to happy when she first met him. Her mama couldn't lift her, but could hold that baby and she didn't like that. She's settled down and accepting Noah, sort of like he's another puppy around the house. Big brother, Holden, is doing okay with the two little ones. Emma climbed into the basinette the other day when her mom was changing little Noah. Her mom saw her head pop up. She had to go to time out!

She stayed with us for a day. There's nothing she hasn't discovered in the house--from Q-tips to baseballs in her Pappaw's one drawer. She knows where all the toys are and finds all of them!

Hope you all have some kid stories to add to this blog. We'd love to hear them!

The pumkin is almost upon us! Fall is in the air. And it's still hurricane season in Florida.

What  has that got to do with clothing? Fall means warmer clothes for those living up North. Winter in Florida means the kids need all kinds of clothing. We never know if it'll be hot one week and pretty darned chilly another, or mean and nasty cold for a few days. Cold doesn't last long in Florida--or should I say South and Central Florida.

I do recall living in Ohio and Indiana and loving those Indian Summers. One year when we lived in Greentown, OH, we had Indian Summer in October. We had a party and did one of those trearuer hunts. We lucked out with the weather and were even able to cook outdoors.

Those were the years when I learned to do stretch and sew. Anyone remember that? So okay, my kids wore some ugly clothes for a while! I've never been much of a seamstress--I like ready made clothes--where I don't have to jag myself with pins and get the bobber messed up and tied into knots.

Perhaps that's why I enjoy buying and selling these clothes. No mistakes, no seesaw hemlines, shoulders that don't match and whoops! Did I miss sewing part of the seam?

Here's hoping you enjoy your fall weather whereever you may be. And remember to check with us for clothes. I haven't advertised any used clothes, but I do have some infant and toddlers items. If anyone is interested, email me at deeskidsclothing@gmail.com.

Blog ID: 1902 - Where'd summer go? - 2008-08-13
Hello,

I can't believe that summer is nearly over already! The kids will be back in school, moms can sigh with relief thinking at least they'll have a few hours to chill out before the kids return home.

Well, that is--stay-at-home moms. For you moms that work, you have to wait for weekends to chill out. And some of you don't ever get that break.

Let me just say that in a blink of an eye your little darlings will turn into teenagers with attitudes. Remember when you were young and you thought your parents were all stupid? What did they know? Nothing!

Those hormones kick in and it takes a while before they get over that stage--but moms--they do get over it eventually!

Let's go back the babies. They are learning and growing so fast. My granddaughter, Autumn, turned 2 in June and talks up a storm. Well, her mother is learning she has to watch what she says--Autumn repeats! I was on the phone with Autumn a few weeks ago when she said, "Hi, Gammy. Go away, Gammy."

Her mother was upset. I wasn't--I remember some of the things her mother used to say. I'm sure one of her play school friends said that to her. So Autumn's mom said, "Autumn Brooke! You tell Gammy you're sorry!'

Autumn said, "I sorry, Gammy. I love you, Gammy." Autumn is on my first page in the rocking chair on the left. And I have to admit that every time she says I love you--she just melts my heart.

I do hope you've had time to look at our merchandise and to consider ordering a cute outfit for your child, your grandchild or for a gift for a baby shower.

Enjoy the rest of the summer!
Dee

Your site is great, Dee. Enjoyed your blog also. I remember shopping with my four years ago. They are a year apart, and if one got something, they thought each should get something. Guess thats why I am not a very good shopper today. I will be back to your site, my granddaughter is having a baby in December. Margaret

Hi Dee, I love your website, and I definitely related to your shopping story. I have an ADHD kid. She has shown me the many ways you can sit, stand, hang and swing in her cart all in a matter of minutes! And I'll tell you a secret, you know when you hear over the Walmart Supermarket speaker to parents to please keep your children "seaten" in your carts -- they're probably talking to me. :-} Lorna

Blog ID: 1875 - Hey! We have new items - 2008-07-31

Hello!

I've added more items to our catalog page and the clothes pages. Now my hubby tells me until I sell some stuff I cannot buy anymore clothes. So please, take a look and see if there's anything you want to buy!

I have four pairs of 8 Regular shorts listed. They have never been worn, but my daughter tore off the tags. Then her son refused to wear them. She paid $14.99 a pair and we're selling them for $9.99. They can be used at schools who require uniforms. Hey, that will save you money--and that's what we're all about.

I also picked up some larger clothes this time--6X, 7, and even one Hannah Montana t-shirt that's a size 16! Grab them while they last. I have one Hannah shirt that's a size 7/8, too.

I hope some of you will join our blog and tell us your shopping stories. Or you can share stories about fussy clothing kids.

Let's go back to Michelle when she was a kid. She would decided she hated everything in her closet, fuss about it until I would scream--"Just wear something! You can't go to school naked, you know!" And then I'd realize that I did that very thing when I was a child. Now she has a child doing that, too. That's where the shorts come into play!

Hope everyone has a good week. Please, do drop us a note. We love hearing from everyone!

Dee

Hey Moms! Glad to have you stop by. And Grandmoms too.

This Blog is for you—tell us your shopping tales about when you had to shop with a kid or four. I’ll tell you my tale this time—then you tell me yours.

Ever been to the Mall with your 4-year-old and a few more. You are stressed for time and money—but the kids don’t get the concept that money is tight right now.

I remember taking the kids to the Mall one evening after dinner when ten-year-old Michelle sat at the table and announced calmly, “Oh, Mom, I forgot to tell you that I need a white shirt for chorus.”

“Okay, we’ll go this weekend and get one.”

“No! I need it by tomorrow! We’re singing at the Mall at noon.”

Why is it that the little darlings always wait until the last minute to tell you things like that? And of course, that was one of the times when hubby was out of town and I had to take all three kids with me. (before I had number 4)

We got the shirt and was about to leave the Mall when 4-year-old Ashley stood in the middle of the Mall screaming, "I SAID I WANT A HOT PRETZEL--NOW!"

All I wanted to do was get home, get the kids to bed and soak in the tub—read a book that would take me away from it all. Instead, I stood there with strangers staring at me like I had just created the world’s worst little monster.

I explained to the three children that I didn’t have any extra money and they couldn’t have the pretzel that Ashley demanded nor the ice cream the other two insisted they deserved.

I got to listen to Ashley's wailing all the way home, and her two siblings whining because they didn't get what they wanted either. No amount of explaining that Mommy didn't have extra money for pretzels and ice cream did a bit of good. After all, Aunt Diana always bought them stuff like that when she took them to the mall. Of course, she had no kids of her own, had plenty of money and could spoil them, then return them to me!

I’ve done a lot of shopping for children over the years. I know what it's like to buy clothes and to try to stay within your financial means. I'm hoping to provide you with clothing that will look good and not bust the budget. I hope you’ll blog here with me and take a look at what I have to offer.

And I’d like this to be a fun blog—somewhere you can vent about your shopping trips with the little darlings in tow!

 Dee
